WHAT MAKES A BOY NAME UNIQUE?
We all know our kids ARE unique. How do we get a name to convey that?
Truthfully, it’s somewhat subjective. Some names are more popular in some areas, where they haven’t been used in others.

While you definitely don’t want your kid to be confused with five other Ashley’s in the class, you also don’t want to give them a. name no one has ever heard of and can’t pronounce.
WHERE ELSE CAN I LOOK FOR A UNIQUE BOY NAME?
If you’re anything like me (and five billion other moms) you may be struggling with finding a boy name you actually like.

Here are a couple of other places you can search for a unique boy name that you may not have thought of yet.
- Look through an old family tree. You may find the perfect name that is unique, but not too far out there.
- Think about geographical areas. Sometimes there’s too much meaning associated with it, but otherwise you may find a place that you love. Before Australia had any context for me, I was convinced I’d name my child that. Of course, I was twelve and that changed once I was older.
- Look at these Fantasy baby boy names. Even if you haven’t heard of some of the characters (I haven’t – my partner wrote the post) you may still find something you like.
- Check out popular baby names in other countries. There may be something that hasn’t quite made its way across the ocean yet.
- You can use a unique spelling of a name – with one caveat. Make sure it’s still fairly obvious how the name is pronounced unless you want your child having to explain it. For their entire life.
CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CHOOSING A UNIQUE BOY NAME
- How does your child’s first name sound with the last name?
- What are your other kid’s names?
- How easy is it to spell?
- How easy is it to say?
- What will your child’s initials be?
- What nicknames go with your child’s name?
It is an important consideration when choosing a name. If you haven’t, watch my video above where I go over a few other things you should keep in mind before you pick your child’s given handle.
WRAPPING UP UNIQUE BOY NAMES
Regardless of what name you decide on, you’ll end up associating your child with whatever the name is. Which means you’ll most likely love it, even if it feels iffy at first. Good luck!
