It is officially the Year of the Rooster, which basically calls for a traditional Chinese dish. One of my absolute favourites is, of course, easy 10-minute wonton soup.

Easy 10-Minute Wonton Soup (1)

Last week, I shared my how-to recipe for my favourite type of wontons =chicken and cilantro wontons. Remember those little guys, and how cute they turned out when wrapped. Those same little guys that took almost an hourto wrap? Well, that hourwent a long way because Icurrentlyhave anendless supply in my freezer.

After all that hard work, a 10-minute soup is music to my ears. This is the easiest weeknight meal. It is filling and fulfilling. Seriously, put down the phone and put down that take-out menu. With a recipe this quick and easy, why bother withtake-out?

How to Make 10-Minute Wonton Soup

There are really just two main steps to follow for this ridiculously easy soup.

  1. Cook the wontons. Bring a pot of chicken stock and water to a boil. Add wontons and salt. When the wontons float to the top (approximately 5 minutes), add a cup of cold water and cook for a few more minutes, until wontons float to the top. Once wontons float to the top again, add soy sauce and sesame oil.
  2. Serve the soup. Scoop wontons out into a large soup bowl and top up with soup base. Garnish with cilantro and green onions on top.

It was so delicious but I had to use a little more soy sauce for flavor because it was kind of blah. Is that bad? Lol I also used spicy salmon gyoza from Trader Joe’s! Delicious

Was very easy to make. Used frozen chicken and vegetables wonton. Because I like my veggies and a hearty soup, I add fresh spinach, shredded carrots and thinly sliced bok choy. It stretches the soup to go for more lunches. I even added fresh shrimp once.
I'm a major soup lover and this recipe is a favorite.

Is there a way to make this with just the broth? I am not a fan of the actual wontons, but I love the soup.

Yup! You can just make the broth and add some noodles and vegetables to it. You could just have the broth plain but personally, I find it a little boring just on its own, but it depends on your taste.

Made the wontons this morning and whipped up some fried rice to serve with the soup tonight. Husband and kids thought it was fantastic! Good thing, since I still have 80 wontons in the freezer.
