The Best Pre-Packed Hospital Bag + A Hospital Bag Checklist From A Second Time Mom | My Simple Wild (1)

I am just about 37 weeks pregnant, measuring at 39 weeks, and feel like baby boy is arriving any day now! When I started to put together my hospital bag checklist a few weeks ago, I was honestly a little overwhelmed. It has been over 8 years since I last gave birth after all. And that was before the days of dozens of posts on Pinterest sharing ideas on what to pack. Now there is a LOT of information and ideas out there. Some of the checklists seemed so over the top and I couldn’t imagine lugging that much stuff to the hospital! Some lists were missing things I thought were essential. I was thinking about how much time and research I was spending just on this list, when I have a million other things to still do! So I started looking up pre-packed hospital bags to see if it would be worth it for me to go that route. If I am feeling overwhelmed by the hospital bag, I’m sure there are other mamas that are too! After lots of comparing, I landed on a newer brand called Lily and Llama. I really liked their different bundle options and thought the prices were very competitive. Read on to see what is all included in the best pre-packed hospital bag!

This post is in collaboration with Lily and Llama. I was gifted product in exchange for my honest review. As always, all opinions are my own. You can read my full disclosure here.

If you are thinking about ordering a pre-packed hospital bag for yourself or as a gift, I hope that this post gives you a good look into this Lily & Llama bag to help make your decision easier!

What’s In the Large Mom + Baby Bundle :

The large bundle includes 20 items. Some of these products were already on my list to buy, and some I didn’t even think of, and I am so glad I have these packed! I have such peace of mind now that my bag is all ready to go. I only added a few more items to the bag and I feel so organized and prepared this time!

Any of these bundles would make the PERFECT baby shower gift! Imagine gifting the mom-to-be not just some great gifts, but the gift of checking off a huge thing on her to-do list… packing her hospital bag!

For Mom:

The tote bag– The bag itself is even prettier in person. It has several compartments and pockets and is going to be perfect for weekends away! It holds a LOT. I like that there is a detachable cross-body strap, too.

Shower towel– this large fluffy towel is going to beat those tiny hospital towels any day. This one probably isn’t TOTALLY necessary, but it’s the little luxuries like a super soft towel that can help feel a little more pampered after labor.

20-piece toiletry kit This kit has just about everything you could need! What I added to my toiletry bag: BB cream, my favorite lip balm, a small bottle of dry shampoo, a headband, and my contacts/glasses. I think I will take out the razor and shaving cream- I can’t see myself shaving while at the hospital.

White noise machine- This is one of those items I never even thought to pack, and I just KNOW I will be using this a ton. I had a small portable one similar to this when my first was a baby and we used it a lot while traveling, camping, and even at restaurants. I really like that this one has a nightlight! This could have really come in handy when we were camping with my first kiddo.

Nipple covers- I love that these nipple covers come in a machine washable mesh bag! No more losing them in the washing machine. These are super soft and made with organic 100% bamboo to prevent breast-milk leakage.

Rubber flip flops– These are great to wear in the hospital shower and to just walk around in at the hospital if you’re too hot to wear the non-slip socks.

Nightgown– This stretchy nightgown is going to be great postpartum. It was quite snug over my 37 week baby bump, so if you plan to wear this during your pregnancy, go up a size! I got a size large. The buttons are going to be nice for those late night breastfeeding sessions, too.

Hospital mug– A giant mug with a bendy straw is going to come in handy! I am sure I will be using this one a lot postpartum as well.

Nursing bra– This nursing bra is SO comfy! I could have honestly gone up a size, though. I ordered a large but an XL probably would have fit better. I have had such a hard time with sizing this entire pregnancy. Most of my pregnancy, all dressing rooms were closed because of COVID, so I had a LOT of returns. Especially in bras- I went up 3 bra sizes again this pregnancy!

Non-slip socks I prefer these socks over slippers because they can just stay on without falling off. Hospitals always seem to be chilly, so these are going to be nice to have.

Robe– This is actually my FAVORITE item in the whole bag! I went up a size because I wanted it extra roomy, and I am so glad that I did. This robe is such high quality and so darn comfortable. I’m guessing I will be living in this thing for those first few weeks postpartum. I wish I had this my entire pregnancy!

Postpartum Underwear– Most hospitals send you home with a stack of adult diapers, but these look a little nicer and are probably more comfortable. Plus, you can never have too many of these postpartum! These are designed to feel like real underwear, with maximum protection.

4 Perineal Ice Packs– The not-so-glamorous part of postpartum healing- the diapers and the ice packs. Crack these cold packs for instant cooling relief after child birth. The soft fabric outside keeps the cold from irritating the skin and allows more comfortable healing.

Hair ties- Four pack of cute reusable hair ties.

Maxi Dress This dress is super soft, stretchy, and loose fitting. Perfect to wear home from the hospital! This with my flip-flops is perfect as I am due in the Summer. But if you’re having a Winter baby, throw in a soft sweater or cardigan to layer up and still be nice and cozy postpartum. The best part? It has pockets!

For Baby

Receiving muslin blanket I adore this simple and gender-neutral blanket. Perfect for the nurses to help swaddle him up in! I only have a couple receiving blankets, so this one will be used a lot once we are home.

Llama pacifier– How CUTE is this ?!

Velcro swaddle– I love that this one is just simple and white. I am not a fan of the crazy prints on some swaddles these days. I was never great at swaddling babies with a blanket. I envied how tight the nurses were able to get those blankets, and seemingly effortless! I like these with the Velcro- especially when I am just plain exhausted and need things to be easy as can be.

Baby Onesie– I am SO glad that they have this in size 0-3 months! My son never fit in size newborn because he was born 9 lbs. It’s looking like this baby boy is also going to be a big one, so I am sure the newborn size won’t be fitting him either.

Car seat/nursing cover– This was another item on my list that I never bought, so I am very grateful it came in this bag! This incredibly soft multi-use cover is going to be used a LOT.

I didn’t have a baby shower and we had to start completely fresh with baby items (over an 8 year age gap between kiddos!) so there was SO much that we needed to buy! I still have quite a few items I need to get for baby, but I think I am set for at least the first couple of months. A lot of the items for baby in this bundle were on my list, so I am very thankful I got those checked off my list as well!

Price

The cost for this large Mom + Baby Bundle is $295. Which may seem a little steep at first. Until you start to think about if you purchased all these items individually! I found similar tote bags for $100+ online. The robe I was originally looking to buy for the hospital was $50. The car seat cover was around $30. A Velcro swaddle is around $20. The white noise sound machine could be between $15 and $40. A very similar maxi dress I found online is $50. This toiletry kit is on Amazon for around $19… the value goes well above the price of this pre-packed bag! And for a family who is always on a budget, like most, I appreciate that it’s not only super convenient to order a pre-packed bag, but also affordable. Lily and Llama also have a Small Mom + Baby Bundle that has 13 items for $195. The Just For Mom Bundle is $245 and the Just For Baby Bundle is $125. Below is a break down of what comes in each bundle.

A few things I added to my bag:

Almost everything I needed was in this bag, but there were a few personal things I ended up adding in. Besides my contacts/glasses, BB cream, and lip balm, I added some items to help me through labor and a couple comforts from home.

Don’t forget to wash everything before you use it/ wear it!

My birth plan– I made a few copies of my birth plan to hand out to whomever needs one. My midwife and the hospital do already have copies of this, but I want to have some backups.

Birthing Ball– I may or may not be bringing this with me to the hospital. I know I will be using it for early labor while at home, but not sure if we will want to tote this big ball with us to the hospital. It will be near my bag just in case.

Labor of Love oil With herbs such as St. John’s Wort, lavender, clary sage, and frankincense, this tension soothing massage oil will be used to help support me in labor.

Peppermint essential oil roller– I will be using this to help with pain and to give me an extra boost of energy when needed. Peppermint Oil can also supposedly help ease the nausea during the transition phase of labor, when your cervix becomes fully dilated. (I like Plant Therapy for affordable EO. Use my link for free shipping!)

Lavender essential oil roller– to help promote relaxation and contractions. (I buy my lavender essential oil from a local lavender farm here in MT)

Bluetooth Speaker– I created a calming Spotify playlist that I will be playing over this Bluetooth speaker while in labor. I had made a playlist for my first labor but my phone was too quiet so I couldn’t really hear it. I have made sure to keep this speaker charged and ready to go!

New Mama Balm– Made with Calendula, St. John’s Wort, Yarrow, Comfrey, Plantain and Rose, Cocoa Butter*, Beeswax, Rosehip Seed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, and Vitamin E to help heal those tender parts. You can apply several times a day, especially after going to the bathroom.

Lavender eye pillow– I remember with my first, I had the WORST migraine ever, that lasted for several hours. I was wishing I had something to put on my eyes (this is the only relief I usually get when I have a bad migraine). So I am packing my lavender eye pillow, just in case! (But really hoping I don’t need it).

After Birth Sitz Spray- Spray this natural after birth sitz spray to help relieve and assist mending those tender parts after giving birth. Made with Witch Hazel steeped with Yarrow, Comfrey, Calendula, St. John’s Wort, Lady’s Mantle and Elderflower.

Phone and phone chargers

ID/Wallet

Camera Bag with charged camera and new SD card– We didn’t have a nice camera when my firs kiddo was born, so I am really looking forward to trying to get some good shots of baby while we are still in the hospital. I searched Pinterest for newborn hospital photo ideas and saved a few to my phone for a quick reference.

Face Wash– Though I probably won’t have energy to use anything but the face wipes, I do want to bring a little travel size of my favorite face wash with. This Burt’s Bees Soap Bark And Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream has an amazing cooling sensation that helps make me feel more awake in the mornings. I am guessing that my first shower post-labor will be that much better with this face wash. This natural cream cleanser is made with Chamomile and aloe to gently soften skin and the hint of menthol helps cool and soothe.

Small Hand Mirror- This is not a super important item to bring, but one I wish I had last time. We had the hospital newborn photographer stop in our room and offered to take photos for us. I felt SO gross but was way too tired to get up and shower. I remember wishing I had a little mirror to just throw on some concealer and dry shampoo in the bed.

Car Seat– This is an obvious one but don’t forget to add it to your list! We were in such a rush to get out the door last time, I think my hubby actually had to go back home to get the car seat! I will be installing this car seat in our truck fairly soon. One less thing to think about!

Here is a quick video of me sharing all the items in the Large Mom + Baby Bundle- The Best Pre-Packed Hospital Bag!
